ABATEMENT
Recent changes in building codes have necessitated the removal of low voltage wiring in the above ceiling space in commercial buildings. While a tenant used to be able to abandon above ceiling cable when vacating a space, more and more municipalities and landlords that operate within them are now requiring the removal of all low voltage cable upon moving out of a space. This was brought about by the National Electrical Code (NEC), and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) recognizing the potential dangers of abandoned cable. These dangers include pathways and conduits being filled beyond capacity, lack of adequate air flow through air ducts, and adding fuel to fires which can spread quickly through a building.
